Vivo Pensando En Ti by Felipe Peláez featuring Maluma is a romantic song about one of the oldest relationship complications: falling for your best friend.
The song follows the moment when being someone’s amigo y confidente stops feeling quite as innocent as it used to. What starts as friendship slowly turns into attraction, and suddenly someone has a lot more explaining to do.
About the Song
Released in 2017, Vivo Pensando En Ti brings together Felipe Peláez’s vallenato sound and Maluma’s urban style. The song tells the story of two friends realizing that their relationship may have crossed into something more romantic.
And the title says almost everything: vivo pensando en ti literally means “I live thinking about you,” but naturally means something closer to “I can’t stop thinking about you.”
The official lyrics also give us plenty of useful Spanish: ponerse a pensar, darse cuenta, meterle el corazón, no sé qué, perder la razón, and the wonderfully useful ¿quién diría…?

Vivo Pensando En Ti – Spanish Lyrics & English Translation
Yo no sé que va pasar
I don’t know what’s going to happen
Pero sé que pongo en riesgo
But I know I’m putting at risk
Nuestros días de amistad (Ajá)
Our days of friendship (Uh-huh)
Ay, no sé como sucedió
Oh, I don’t know how it happened
Pero ya el papel de amigo
But now the role of being a friend
Y confidente me dolió (Baby)
And confidant has started to hurt me (Baby)
Y vivo pensando en ti (Pensando en ti)
And I can’t stop thinking about you (Thinking about you)
Y sé que eso no es normal (No, no)
And I know that’s not normal (No, no)
Porque te conozco, porque reconozco
Because I know you, because I recognize
Que ese no fue nuestro plan
That wasn’t our plan
Y sigo pensando en ti (Pensando en ti)
And I keep thinking about you (Thinking about you)
Y sé que eso no es normal (No, no)
And I know that’s not normal (No, no)
Pero ya te sueño y todo lo que siento
But now I dream about you, and everything I feel
No lo puedo controlar
I can’t control it
Solo quiero que me beses y me digas que también tú sientes lo mismo
I just want you to kiss me and tell me that you feel the same
Que no sabes que te pasa pero ya se te metió en el alma, tu amigo
That you don’t know what’s happening to you, but your friend has already gotten into your soul
Mi princesa, mi locura, mi refugio, lo que anhelo, mi mundo, tú eres
My princess, my madness, my refuge, what I long for, you are my world
Yo te gusto, tú me gustas, solo falta que te quedes conmigo por siempre
You like me, I like you, all that’s missing is for you to stay with me forever
Alright, alright baby
Baby, ¿quién diría que de mí tú te enamorarías? (Come on)
Baby, who would’ve thought you’d fall in love with me? (Come on)
Fui tu confidente, él que secretos más sabía de ti (Sí, sí)
I was your confidant, the one who knew the most secrets about you (Yeah, yeah)
Pero, ¿a quién quieres mentir? (Dime)
But who are you trying to fool? (Tell me)
Tu molde se perdió, solo te hicieron pa′ mí, mami
Your mold got lost, they only made you for me, baby
En nuestra historia, solo hubo un mínimo error
In our story, there was only one tiny mistake
Ser tu confidente y meterle el corazón
Being your confidant and putting my heart into it
Pero te hablo claro y quiero estar contigo hoy
But I’ll be honest with you, and I want to be with you today
Podemos hacer amigos solos en mi habitación, oah-ah (Tú sabes baby)
We can be friends alone in my room, ooh-ah (You know, baby)
Y sigo pensando en ti (Pensando en ti)
And I keep thinking about you (Thinking about you)
Y sé que eso no es normal (Normal)
And I know that’s not normal (Normal)
Porque te conozco, porque reconozco
Because I know you, because I recognize
Que ese no fue nuestro plan
That wasn’t our plan
Solo quiero que me beses y me digas que también tú sientes lo mismo
I just want you to kiss me and tell me that you feel the same
Que no sabes que te pasa pero ya se te metió en el alma, tu amigo (Que pena)
That you don’t know what’s happening to you, but your friend has already gotten into your soul (What a shame)
Mi princesa, mi locura, mi refugio, lo que anhelo, mi mundo, tú eres
My princess, my madness, my refuge, what I long for, you are my world
Yo te gusto, tú me gustas, solo falta que te quedes conmigo por siempre (Come on)
You like me, I like you, all that’s missing is for you to stay with me forever (Come on)
Si tú estás cerquita siento un no sé qué (Ja)
When you’re close, I feel a certain something (Ha)
Contigo se me acelera el corazón (Ay, que rico)
My heart speeds up when I’m with you (Oh, how good)
Y cuando te alejas pierdo la razón (Come on, come on)
And when you move away, I lose my mind (Come on, come on)
Quisiera vivir contigo, vaya pues (¿Cómo, cómo, cómo dice baby?)
I wish I could live with you, well then (What, what, what does it say, baby?)
Tony Juega
Okay
Pretty boy, dirty boy, baby

Ay, ¡ay qué rico!
Oh, how good!
Pa’ que lo bailes
So you can dance to it
Pa′ que lo que goces
So you can enjoy it
Pa’ que lo cantes, baby
So you can sing it, baby

A useful word: “confidente”
A confidente is more than simply a friend.
It is someone you trust enough to tell your secrets to. That’s why the lyric “el papel de amigo y confidente” works so well: the singer has been emotionally close to her, just not romantically.
And then, naturally, things get complicated.
🧠 Grammar We Learned Through “Vivo Pensando En Ti”
| Grammar point | Example from the song | What it teaches us |
| Ir + a + infinitive | Va a pasar | The near future is formed with ir + a + infinitive. Va a pasar = it’s going to happen. |
| Seguir + gerund | Sigo pensando en ti | Seguir + gerund means to continue doing something. Sigo pensando = I keep thinking. |
| Lo + adjective/phrase | Todo lo que siento | Lo que means “what” or “that which.” Todo lo que siento = everything that I feel. |
| Lo mismo | Tú sientes lo mismo | Lo mismo means “the same thing.” It is extremely common in everyday Spanish. |
| Querer + subjunctive | Quiero que me beses | When the subject changes after querer que, Spanish uses the subjunctive. Quiero que me beses = I want you to kiss me. |
| Quedarse + subjunctive | Que te quedes conmigo | Quedarse means to stay or remain. After solo falta que, the subjunctive is used: que te quedes. |
| Quisiera + infinitive | Quisiera vivir contigo | Quisiera is an imperfect subjunctive form often used to express a wish politely or romantically. Quisiera vivir contigo = I would like to live with you / I wish I could live with you. |
“Me gusta” vs. “Te gusto”
This song gives us a perfect opportunity to revisit one of the classic Spanish constructions that confuses English speakers.
Tú me gustas.
I like you.
Literally, the structure is closer to “You are pleasing to me.”
But then:
Yo te gusto.
You like me.
The person doing the liking goes after gustar, while the person experiencing the feeling is represented by the indirect object pronoun.
So:
- Me gustas. = I like you.
- Te gusto. = You like me.
- Nos gustamos. = We like each other.
Which makes “Yo te gusto, tú me gustas” a very efficient little Spanish lesson hidden inside a love song.
💬 Spanish Expressions We Learned Through “Vivo Pensando En Ti”
| Expression | Meaning | Usage |
| vivo pensando en ti | I can’t stop thinking about you | Literally “I live thinking about you,” but naturally expresses constant thoughts about someone |
| no sé qué | I don’t know what / a certain something | Often used when you cannot quite explain a feeling or quality |
| se me acelera el corazón | my heart speeds up | A natural way to describe excitement or attraction |
| perder la razón | to lose one’s mind | Used when someone becomes overwhelmed by emotion |
| hablar claro | to speak honestly / plainly | Te hablo claro = I’ll be honest with you |
| meterle el corazón | to put your heart into something | Figuratively, to become emotionally invested |
| ¿quién diría…? | who would’ve thought…? | Used when something turns out unexpectedly |
| pa’ | for / so that | Informal shortened form of para, common in songs and everyday speech |
“No sé qué”
One of the most useful little expressions in the song is:
Siento un no sé qué.
I feel a certain something.
Literally, no sé qué means “I don’t know what.”
But when used as a noun-like expression, it describes something you cannot quite identify or explain.
For example:
Esta canción tiene un no sé qué.
This song has a certain something.
It is perfect when you know you like something but cannot quite explain why.
“Meterle el corazón”
The lyric says:
Ser tu confidente y meterle el corazón.
The verb meter literally means “to put” or “to insert,” but meterle el corazón is figurative. The singer is saying that he put his heart into the friendship and became emotionally invested.
Spanish uses meterle in many expressions where English might use “put effort into” or “get involved in.”

❤️ Final Thoughts
Vivo Pensando En Ti is basically a Spanish lesson disguised as the most dangerous sentence in friendship: “I think I might like you.”
What makes it especially useful for learners is that the song is full of everyday structures for expressing feelings. Sigo pensando en ti, me gustas, no sé qué, pierdo la razón, quisiera vivir contigo… these are the kinds of phrases that help you move from knowing Spanish words to actually expressing yourself in Spanish.
And there is something particularly satisfying about learning gustar through “Yo te gusto, tú me gustas.” Once that structure clicks, Spanish suddenly becomes a little less mysterious.
