¡Hola a todos!
After an ETERNITY. Needless to say, I’ve been busy with a ton of work [and small vacations 😉 ] over the last month-and-a-half. So. Much. Stress. I. Can’t. Even.
I realised though, that keeping busy in general does not, or should not, amount to ignoring doing what you love. So I’m back! Haven’t caught up with new music recently, so feeling a bit of FOMO right now haha. But let’s dive into Bonita [beautiful] by the great Colombian pop star, Juanes, and everybody’s favourite [or ahem, just mine] Sebastian Yatra! A fun melody to groove to, Bonita makes you feel wanted, loved, and attracted to the lyrics in general. 🙂

La letra
Lyrics
No quería enamorarme
I didn’t want to fall in love
Y me fui de fiesta con mis amigos
And I went out to party with my friends
— ‘ir de fiesta’ – to go party
No pensé que encontrarte era mi destino
I didn’t think that finding you was my destiny
Yo te dije, corazón
I told you, my heart
Acércate, por favor
Come closer, please
Vos tenés esa faldita, todos pierden la razón
You have that little skirt, everyone loses their minds
— ‘la falda’ – the skirt. Add an ‘-ita’, it becomes a little wittle skirt
Si te está gustando mucho
If you like it so much
Te pido perdón
I apologise to you
— ‘pedirse perdón’ – to ask for pardon / ask for forgiveness
Y después de un vallenato nos vamos los dos
And after a vallenato, the two of us leave
— I have no idea what a vallenato is??
Porque tú
Because you
Porque tú tienes esa cara bonita
Because you have that pretty face
Y enloquecido con tu cuerpo, ¿qué voy a hacer?
I have gone crazy for your body, what should I do?
Sin darme cuenta, me perdí en tu boquita
Without realising, I have gotten lost in your mouth
— ‘sin darme cuenta’ – without realising, without any warning
Que no me busquen, que yo nunca quiero volver
Don’t come looking for me, I will never return
Solo un idiota va a dejarte solita
Only an idiot would let you be alone
Con esas ganas de besarte, bonita
With these desires to kiss you, beautiful
No seas tan mala, ven dame una vueltita
Don’t be so bad/mean, come give me a small jump/lap
Tú tienes eso que mi cuerpo necesita
You have what my body requires
Ay, mujer (ay) bonita
Oh woman, oh beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) oh beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) oh beautiful
Tú tienes eso que mi cuerpo necesita
You have what my body requires
De Colombia para el mundo pa’
From Colombia to the world
Eres una de esas que te rompe la cabeza
You are one of those that blow your mind
— ‘romperse la cabeza’ – to blow one’s mind
Ma-mamasota, mamacita, lo que quiera, princesa
Mamacita, babe, whatever you want, princess
Yo a ti te llevo a Medallo, tomamos guaro y cerveza
I will take you to Medellin, we’ll have guaro and beer
— ‘Medallo’/’Medellin’ – second largest city in Colombia. Why they don’t want to take her to the first largest city is anybody’s guess
— Also, TIL guaro is an alcoholic drink make of distilled sugar cane. Huh.
Y dale ven, déjame ver cómo lo, cómo lo mueves tú, y tú
And come on, let me see how you, how you move it, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo bailas tú, y tú
How you, how you dance, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo mueves tú, y tú
How you, how you move, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo bailas
How, how you dance
Y dale ven, déjame ver cómo lo, cómo lo mueves tú, y tú
And come on, let me see how you, how you move it, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo bailas tú, y tú
How you, how you dance, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo mueves tú, y tú
How you, how you move, and you
Cómo lo, cómo lo bailas
How, how you dance
Porque tú tienes esa cara bonita
Because you have that pretty face
Y enloquecido con tu cuerpo, ¿qué voy a hacer?
I have gone crazy for your body, what should I do?
Sin darme cuenta, me perdí en tu boquita
Without realising, I have gotten lost in your mouth
— ‘sin darme cuenta’ – without realising, without any warning
Que no me busquen, que yo nunca quiero volver
Don’t come looking for me, I will never return
Solo un idiota va a dejarte solita
Only an idiot would let you be alone
Con esas ganas de besarte, bonita
With these desires to kiss you, beautiful
No seas tan mala, ven dame una vueltita
Don’t be so bad/mean, come give me a small jump/lap
Tú tienes eso que mi cuerpo necesita
You have what my body requires
Ay, mujer (ay) bonita
Oh woman, beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) beautiful
Tú tienes eso que mi cuerpo necesita (otra vez, otra vez)
You have what my body needs (once more, once more)
— ‘Una vez’ – once, ‘Otra vez’ – again
Ay, mujer (ay) bonita
Oh woman, beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) beautiful
Ay, mujer (ay, mujer) bonita
Oh woman, (oh, woman) beautiful
Tú tienes eso que mi cuerpo necesita
You have what my body needs
